Drive-thru orders
Since I have so many cousins and uncles and aunts, the drive-thru experience can be painful. People saying (or should I say shouting) their orders at the same and changing their orders when they were already placed are just some of the examples of the chaos that usually happens when we go to drive-thru. So here are some of the rules that I think can make our future drive-thru experience pleasant and less chaotic.
Tell me your orders 5 to 10 minutes before we arrive at the drive-thru window. This will allow a smooth relay of information to the fast food attendant and less noise-pollution in the car.
Try not to change or add to your order once they were already placed. JUST TRY. However, if it really can’t be helped then it’s okay but just mind your voice. Better say it calmly than shout.
Stick to the budget not unless we don’t have one. Food is important and the price doesn’t matter not unless we are short of it. When a budget exist, respect it. When a budget doesn’t exist, get crazy as long as you can finish what you ordered. You will not waste food and money.
You are to be fluent in Filipino (Tagalog) first and then English.
You can choose to be proficient in one other Asian language (like Mandarin or Korean) and one European language (like Spanish or French).
Always remember that you are a Filipino first. English may be the business language of the Philippines but our national language is Filipino so learn that well! In our house we will speak in Filipino and English. We will not be conyo.
Learning foreign languages is important. It will teach you patience and respect for other cultures. I know a bit of Mandarin, Korean & Spanish and it has helped me a lot especially at work. Knowing Filipino is an advantage because some of the words and expressions in Filipino are almost the same in Spanish.
Love your own first. I cannot emphasize more the importance of loving your own country and countrymen before any other. Why? If we, Filipinos, do not love the Philippines, then who will? I’m not saying that you should hate other countries and cultures (I love Chinese and Korean culture). All I’m saying is that we are Filipinos, not Koreans, not Japanese, not Chinese (though we may look like one) and not American. We are Filipinos. God placed us in this country and we should leave it better than when we first got here.
To my future kids, I love you. I will practice and converse with you any language that you choose to learn. We will study them together if you want. But we will still speak Filipino more than any other language.
