The Philippine National Rugby team (Men’s) are in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia to compete in the Asian Rugby 7s or Borneo 7s.
This is their schedule for today (September 24, 2011):
What I have been learning…
I work for the Philippine Rugby Football Union and this past week, I got the chance to have some interaction with the national players and observe them before they flew to Kota Kinabalu.
Like any typical girl surrounded by gorgeous guys, I was expecting myself to be star struck when I see and talk to them (because that’s what society expects of you right?). I’d be lying if I say I wasn’t excited. I was! But not as a fan-girl would be. In short, I was happy and honored to meet them but not like a crazy girl shouting “MARRY ME!”.
As the competition date drew near, I got to know the guys more mainly because I handled their passports, boarding passes, playing kits and itinerary. I also sent text messages to them for reminders, watched their practices & games and talked about them in the office.
Up until they left for Kota Kinabalu, the impression they gave me was: They are great people. And that is really true.
Here are the reasons why I think they are amazing:

Blogged: Manila in the Eyes of a Davaoeño
“Horrendous traffic. Very dirty. Crowded. Stressful way of life.”
These are some words that my friends use to describe Manila. Some of them discourage me of visiting Manila; they keep insisting that I should visit Baguio, Batangas or Laguna instead. But I always have this urge to travel and explore Manila. Behind the towering skyscrapers of Makati Central Business District and the heavily polluted waterways and highways lies the soul of Manila, curling up in her own bed, crying.
One misunderstood soul.
Armed with only Php 1,500, I flew to Manila in search of her soul whilst braving its chaotic environment.
And then I discovered the real beauty of Manila.

MAPUA CARDINAL SINGERS WIN IN ASIAN CHOIR CONTEST
MANILA, Philippines - The Mapua Cardinal Singers made their school and country proud after winning at the Hong Kong International Youth and Children’s Choir Festival (HKIYCCF) held last month.
They bagged the gold diploma for their superb overall performance at the event held last July 18 and 19, beating 60 Asian and 2 Philippine choral groups.
They also won gold and silver awards fro the Folklore and Youth Choir categories, respectively.
“Apart from our passion for choral music, as Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) goes global, we also have to step up to be known internationally. This belief led us to the decision of joining more international competitions such as the HKIYCCF,” said John Ramiel Feliciano, who sings Bass 2 in the group.
“We are delighted to bring honor not only to our institute but also to our country.”
The Mapua Cardinal Singers trained for 4 months for the HKIYCCF, MIT said. They previously won gold diplomas and olympic silver medals at the 4th World Choir Games in China in 2006, and gold prizes at the 3rd A Voyage of Songs International Choral Festival in Thailand in 2007.
They consider the HKIYCCF the biggest event they have joined so far. The said competition was first organized in 2006 and has been participated in by choirs from Estonia, Romania, United States, Congo, South Africa, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, North Korea, New Zealand and Macau.
Meanwhile, the Mapua Cardinal Singers are now preparing for the Takarazuka International Choral Competition, which will be held in Japan in July next year.

Congratulations to the Philippine Dragon Boat Team! Our very own three-time World Champions are roaring despite limited funding, clinching their back-to-back-to-back world title, new world records, and, the admiration of a country. Let’s support the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation!
